Onyeka Okongwu's 29-point night is the projection catching up, not a new player, and the buy-low window is closing
Okongwu averaged 23.2 fantasy points in his first five games while our projection held him above 32, and his 29 points, 12 rebounds and four threes against Cleveland were the line it had been waiting for.

Through five games he had averaged 9.6 points and 23.2 fantasy points a game under ESPN's standard scoring, had made 4 of his 20 threes, and had not scored more than 11 in any game. Our projection never followed him down: before Thursday it still had him at 32.6 fantasy points a game, a number built mostly on the 15.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 threes a game he averaged over 74 games last season.

Then he scored a season-high 29 points with 12 rebounds in Atlanta's 114-111 win over Cleveland, as ESPN's recap reported, shooting 11 of 17 from the field and 4 of 6 from three in 33 minutes, his most of the season. Our box score scores the line at 59 fantasy points, more than his previous two games combined. This story explains why a model that shrinks every new game toward the preseason line was right to wait, what the night changed on our boards, and why the moment to trade for him cheaply has mostly passed.
