Six players Yahoo drafters reach for, and the two that cost you

Yahoo drafters were taking all six ahead of our consensus, but our projections under Yahoo scoring call only OG Anunoby and Chet Holmgren real overpays and back two of the others.

Yahoo's drafters and ESPN's do not overpay for the same players, and the clearest proof is Chet Holmgren. In early October ESPN drafters were letting him fall to around 64th, well after his consensus points rank of 40th, which made him one of our ESPN sleepers, while Yahoo drafters were taking him around 29th, eleven places before it. The same is true of Cedric Coward, whom ESPN drafters were leaving until around 128th and Yahoo drafters were taking around 87th. A player is only overpriced on the platform where he is overpriced, so this is the Yahoo half of the list.

Ranks from our projections board and the analysts' consensus, updated nightly.

When we compared Yahoo's average draft position with our consensus points rankings, six players stood out as going ahead of where our analysts rank them. Yahoo's default scoring pays 1.2 points a rebound, 1.5 an assist and 3 a steal or block, charges a point a turnover and nothing for a missed shot, so we put every one of them through our projections under those rules as well. Two of the six are genuine overpays, two are close to fair, and for the other two our projections side with the drafters.
