Amen Thompson is worth more under ESPN's scoring than anywhere else

The points consensus has Thompson 28th, but under ESPN's default scoring, where steals and blocks pay four points, our projections rank him 20th, which is where ESPN drafters take him.

By · 2 min read

Amen Thompson played 79 games for Houston last season, with 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 37 minutes a night, and he did it while making only 0.3 threes a game. That last number is why fantasy analysts cannot agree on him. Papi Roi has him 20th on points and James 23rd, while sinfhoops has him 47th and Washington Specifics 51st, and the consensus lands at 28th.

The disagreement is mostly about scoring systems, not about the player. Thompson's value comes from defense, rebounding and efficient finishing, and some scoring systems pay much more for those things than others. On our projections he is a different rank on every platform, and in early October ESPN drafters were taking him around 20th, which is the one platform where that price is right.
